Strategic Development Commission

The Strategic Development Commision (hereinafter – Commission) as independent advisory body was established on February 6, 2012, at the initiative of Latvian President, Andris Berziņš.

In supporting the establishment of the Commission, Latvian President Andris Bērziņš said that there is an urgent need for an all-encompassing view of developmental processes and procedures that would support wise and responsible development of the state.  In order to achieve this, the President said, there must be work done to prevent a lack of integrated solutions, to engage in an evaluation of short term and long term causes and effects, to propose appropriate responses to those effects, to support the expansion of talent, creativity and ambition among the people of Latvia, as well as to ensure that the placement of resources is in line with the country’s developmental procedures.  Mr Bērziņš added that these issues must be handled with maximum co-operation and involvement of the public, also calling for principles of good governance such as long term development, successiveness of activities, and work that is in line with identified priorities.
